After the Flood

Based on a vivid reminiscence from the artist’s years in southern Italy, After the Flood captures the drama and transience of a sudden Mediterranean downpour. The work balances movement and stillness: rivulets of rain cut through sun-bleached facades, while people have escaped indoors or to the safety of their cars as the rain hammers down. Within minutes, the street has become a mirror of the sky, reflecting both turmoil and beauty. Yet, as swiftly as the storm arrived, it departs: the clouds retreat, leaving behind the dazzling clarity of the Mezzogiorno sun. Through expressive brushwork and luminous colour, not only the physical event is evoked but also the emotional rhythm of life in the South, where intensity, impermanence, and renewal coexist in every moment.
